Endurance

Endurance
Isle of Man, United Kingdom
Located on a submerged reef at the southern extremity of the Isle of Man, the Chicken Rock Lighthouse stands as a testament to the necessity of diligent stewardship.
Built in 1875 to safeguard a treacherous route in the Irish Sea where earlier measures had failed, the granite tower was placed directly upon the hazard it was meant to mark, a rock visible for only about 5 hours each day.
Now fully automated following a fire in 1960, the lighthouse persists through the relentless surges of the Irish Sea. Its presence reflects the ongoing care required to sustain what has been built.
The painting is part of an ongoing collection exploring built frameworks titled Remembrance.
