The Remembrance Archive
Documenting the built frameworks of our time before they pass from view
April 2025 - Present
Change is inevitable
In a fleeting world, cities change faster than they can be remembered.
Bridges are rebuilt, streets disappear, and familiar structures are altered within a generation. Time, climate, and the quiet pressures of the environment continue to reshape the built world.
What appears permanent today may be gone or altered beyond recognition within a moment or a few decades.
The Mission
The Remembrance Archive is an ongoing painted record documenting built frameworks before redevelopment, time, and environmental forces alter or erase them.
Through careful observation, the archive preserves visual records of structures that shape communities and form part of the cultural memory of our time.
Each work is created deliberately using archival materials intended to endure for generations to come, preserving a moment of the built world before it passes into memory.
Together these works form a growing visual archive of the existing structures.
The Method
The works in the Remembrance Archive are developed through sustained observation and painting using archival materials.
Painting slows the act of looking, allowing careful attention to proportion, surface, weathering, and surrounding environment. Scenes are deliberately stylised to emphasise stillness and focus, while preserving a faithful visual record of the subject.

Each work records a moment in the life of a place, preserved before it quietly passes from view.
In time, the archive will stand as a faithful visual record of the built frameworks that shaped our cities in this generation.
Each work in the Remembrance Archive is tied to a specific place. The map below marks cities where structures have already been recorded through painting, as well as locations planned for future works within the archive.
As the project grows, new locations will be added, forming a geographic record of the built environment of our time.
